We have a client who is an avid sewer and quilter. She needed a better way of organizing her sewing supplies and a sturdy work table/station to sew and embroider on. As you can see, she has quite the complement of equipment.
We installed a large section of slat wall for her to organize her supplies up and out of the way.
We also built a work station out of a 7 foot piece of butcher block countertop. This was supported with a cleat along the back and one side wall. We also built a support “leg” for the other end of the surface. It was very important to her that the surface be very stable due to the sewing machine action as well as the weight of the machines. We embedded some steel angle in the underside of the top to ensure this table would never sag.
Not shown in the photos are the lighting upgrades we made for her — both general lighting for the room, and task lighting for her work station.
Here is the client using the machines on her new work surface.
